Three Men Die in Devastating Sofa Factory Fire
11th March 2025
Three workers were killed in a horrific sofa factory blaze in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh.
The fire, which occurred on Tuesday, November 26th, 2024, reportedly erupted when an LPG cylinder the victims (all male) were using to cook with developed a leak and exploded.
Local officials said the men, aged between 23 and 29, made a desperate attempt to escape the flames but were overcome by thick smoke. Their charred remains were discovered by firefighters near the gutted factory’s exit following a three-hour battle to extinguish the blaze.
Five appliances from nearby fire stations were called to tackle the sofa factory blaze. It broke out in a small tin room - where the victims lived - at the rear of the two-storey factory building.
Police have filed a section 106 case (causing death by negligence) against the victims’ employer. They are also investigating whether the employer had a licence to operate the factory, which was equipped with a firefighting system.
The tragic loss of three lives highlights the dangers posed by flammable equipment’s storage and usage in or around industrial buildings. Despite the factory being fitted with a firefighting system, deaths occurred and a commercial building was badly damaged. Greater scrutiny must be paid to fire safety regulations in industrial premises and any adjoining buildings, regardless of their size or purpose.
